Obama Misses the Cut on Chelsea's Guest List

Postby elkouri » Thu Jul 29, 2010 3:50 pm

President Obama is clearly the biggest star not invited to Chelsea Clinton's wedding this weekend, but protocol experts say the bride's mother, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was under no obligation to invite her boss.

These days, the rule of thumb at any wedding -- no matter how high-profile -- is that the bride and groom
, not their parents, have final say on the guest list. Since Obama does not have any longstanding personal relationship with the former first daughter, he doesn't exactly qualify as family and friends.

Or just maybe, they all considered that it was her day, unlike a star, I suspect president obama's personal security team is higher than the guest list. It would hardly be her day would it?

Exactly, it is Chelsea’s day and all the guests have a relationship to/with Chelsea. Obama’s comment was rather cute when asked about his absence:

"You don’t want two presidents at one wedding! All the secret service, guests going through (metal detectors), all the gifts being torn apart”

Can somebody explain why anyone, anyone at all, would be interested in a politician's social life? I couldn't care less which parties Obama or Harper or Cameron go to. I want them to run their countries for the good of their respective populations. There are very important issues out there and TV treats politicians like some reality TV segment. Yeeeesh!

I didn't invite him to my wedding either.

Why is this news?

You can't explain it even though you are the one who started this thread. Why do you watch this nonsense? Why do you watch afternoon TV which is all garbage?

I betcha she and her hubby to be don't personally know over 1/2 of the people attending.

I remember arguing with my mom over the guest list, she wanted to invite all kinds of people who I had never heard of or had heard of but never met. My words to her were "if so and so is so much a part of my life, where have they been the last 25 years?" My guest list included family and close friends and no outsiders.

But that doesn't explain. Doing something just because others do is letting other people decide who you are.

Television is not called the "boob tube" without reason. As a medium, TV is the dumbest; it targets the dumbest. This is particularly true during daytime.

Do you know which is the customer and which is the product of TV? The audience, the people who watch, is the product which is sold to the advertisers who are the customers. That's what the Nielson ratings are for. The higher the ratings, the higher the cost. Programming is deliberately dumbed down to attract the maximum audience and, thus, boost the ratings. That's the way it works when corporate profits are the guiding light.

So, I ask again, why would anybody watch daytime TV? Why would anybody watch, or be interested in, who is invited to Chelsea's wedding? Why would anyone outside immediate family stick their noses in?

He didn't say you couldn't post it, he asked you a simple question. I also wonder why you found it necessary to start two threads on obama visit to the view, which were merged.

Clinton turned a huge deficit into a record surplus and paid down much of the debt. He was a great president and was attacked over a private affair that had nothing to do with governing.
